Pork Highway

We had a fun and really exhausting day today. We got a slow start to our adventures because we didn’t know what we wanted to do. It was so hard to choose! We finally narrowed it down to going to some caves or to The Pork Highway or Guavate. We chose Pork Highway even though the drive was much longer. The kids were up for it. So we headed out. We have our little always car sick Ashley some Dramamine because we knew we would be driving through misty, winding mountains.

I mapped us there but somehow missed the fact that we would be driving through San Juan. I’m glad I didn’t know because I wouldn’t have gone 🙂

Here’s a map of where we went today:

When we got to the Pork Highway it was awesome! Loud, live music playing.

Every restaurant roasting a huge pig.

We went to a highly recommended restaurant we heard about on some YouTube food Chanel. It was called Lechonera de piña.

I ordered having no idea what I was ordering or how much I was spending or getting. It’s funny how I don’t care. I was just thinking. If it’s too much that’s ok. If it’s not enough, we’ll eat again. If my Spanish was good at all I might care but for now I’m just glad we’re getting food. Lol

We ended up with a HUGE bucket of rice, macoroni salad, one tamale, and sweet plantains. Plenty of food! Especially because Jordan and Dylan didn’t want to eat any of it.

It was all great. We didn’t like the tamale. I think that’s because it wasn’t really a tamale it just looked like one. Haha I’m going to have to figure out what that was..

After our delicious, filling lunch, we headed into the forest. We knew we were driving the wrong way but wanted to experience the beautiful, green, bamboo heavy forest. Along with the beautiful sounds coming from it. We finally got some cell service. pulled up a map and figured out a “long way” home. Which included 2 extra hours of driving.

It was totally crazy but totally worth it!
