Gracie – 17 days old

Morning: We were so tired last night that we didn’t make it on here to give you all an update.

Yesterday was horrible. Grace looked pale and blue and we knew there was more fluid in her chest but it wasn’t draining. Finally, around 7pm the nurse got a clog out of one chest tube and a bunch of fluid came out. She immediately started looking a little better. This morning the high risk nurse was able to unclog the other chest tube and free a lot more fluid. It’s not good that she’s accumulating so much but if it’s in there we’ve got to get it out. Thank Heaven Ryan asked them to leave the chest tubes in when they wanted to take them out. She looks so much better today! She’s also been breathing much better and has a really good nurse today.

There were several times yesterday where we needed a certain doctor and we would run into them in the hall or cafeteria or once during a procedure. This helped us to remember that she’s being watched over.

The new plan is to start over with no food for 3 days and then try food again and check fluid. If the fluid isn’t gone, after she starts eating again, they’ll try a medication that we’ve been told rarely works but they say they might as well try because surgery’s the next step. We definitely don’t want to get to that point so we’re praying she’ll heal on her own.

I’m expecting a good day today! Love to you all from Grace!

Afternoon:

Grace was happy today and spent a lot of time with her eyes open looking around. I think more than any other day. We also got to hold her as much as we wanted today, which of course, was all day. 🙂

Her chest tubes continued to drain today. The surgeon has decided that it’ll probably be best to go 5 days without food this time. Even though we don’t want to see her hungry we think it’s a good idea. It’ll give her extra time to heal.

Good day today!
