Gracie – 16 Days old

Morning: Night was pretty good. Grace basically slept all night other than them changing diapers and checking temperature.

She is still breathing faster than they would like so they haven’t weened her from the high flow oxygen yet. There giving her some time.

Feeds will start again here this afternoon and we’re hoping we don’t see any chest drainage.

They talked about taking her chest tubes out but I asked them to leave them in until we know the feeds don’t cause more leakage. I would hate for them to have to go back in and redo them for a third time.

They agreed so she’ll have them for a few more days.

Let’s have a great weekend!

Afternoon: Grace has done really well today. We’re just waiting to see if feeding her will increase her fluid output from her chest tubes or not. Still praying it won’t. We should know for sure tomorrow or Monday if the chylothorax is clearing up on its own.

Other than that everything looks good. She’s tolerating her feeds, her vitals all look great and she’s only on a small amount of oxygen.

She’s one tough cookie

Afternoon 2: She’s schedule to go the the other floor today! This is a huge step, kindof a ICU graduation! They’re still watching her to make sure she’s ready but once we’re up there she’s so much closer to going home!

She’s tolerating her feeds. She’s on a regular nasal cannula with a small amount of oxygen right now.

She has had some fluid in her chest tubes but it’s clear and it’s not enough that they’re worried. They’d take out the chest tubes today but we want her to get to her feeding goal to make sure she’s still not accumulating too much before they take them out. We’d just hate for them to take them out and have to put them back in again. She’s being weened off of her pain meds very slowly and is a little jittery but doing okay with that.

Whew! We’ll let you know when they for sure move her outta here!

Can’t thank you all enough for the love and prayers you’re sending! 😘

Afternoon 3: We have now moved out of ICU!!

Grace is still doing good and her chest tubes are draining a lot less.

It’s way different not having a 24/7 nurse in the room, but is a great step forward.

I’ll keep you updated with and changes.

Afternoon 4: Just when you think…

Just when we thought we were out of the woods, Gracie started vomiting again. Also, the chest x-rays show that there is still fluid around her lungs.

So… we are not going back to ICU, but they are stopping feeds again for 3 days and they are going to do some ultrasounds of her neck and sides to check for clotting that may be causing the additional leakage.

So that puts a damper on the day 🙁

I’ll update as we know more.
