[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][text_output]Seriously? Does everything go? Do I sell it? Do I give it away? I was having a really hard time deciding on each things and we dont have a year for me to make decisions 🙂 Ryan helped me make this chart on licidcharrt.com[/text_output][image type=”none” float=”none” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”6660″][text_output]
So as you can see on the chart everything either goes to family, storage, a donation center or gets sold. How it works is we go into a room, say the living room. We write down every single thing that’s in that room. After that everything gets a decision. If I decide that it goes to storage it gets packed up and sent to the garage right then. If it goes to a loved one it goes in a pile for that person. We have 4 piles for different family members right now and when I see them next I will be sure to give it to them. If it goes to charity we put it by the front door so that it can go out with us the next time we leave the house. We have already taken 5 trips to the donation center. I just have to get it out of the house or it doesn’t feel like it’s done. If we are going to sell something we take a picture right then and there and put it on Craigslist or KSL (a local site). This is usually the job of my 13 year old.
[/text_output][text_output]In the beginning I was setting things aside to decide on later but that doesn’t work. Everything only gets one decision and I have to make it right then and get it to the right place. That’s the only way we’ll be ready before we leave. Another thing that I’ve found helpful is if I have a bunch of boxes taped and ready to be filled in the room I’m in. My boys love taping up boxes so this is super easy.[/text_output][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
Thank you for this! Very good tips. I’m going through this process right now & I keep getting stuck! May I ask, did you ship your furniture or buy new when you got there?
Of course! We sold/donated all of our furniture and are renting a furnished condo. There are a couple of good stores I can recommend if you are thinking of buying your furniture here.
