Just received the first text update:
“Dr. Pribble got all of his monitoring lines in that he needed to. Dr. Griffiths just made incision. We will update you in an hour and a half or if Grace goes on the bypass machine before then.”
Next text update from the operating room:
“Grace is doing well and is now on the bypass machine, so we are now working on the repairs. Will update again when she comes off which should be within an hour and a half.”
The surgery is done and Gracie did good. There was a small complication from the coronary arteries draining some blood but they took measures to correct it and she appears to be recovering from it.
They did the repairs they needed to do and the surgeon said, “I’m happy with how it went and she is right where we would expect her to be.”
They were able to close her chest which is another blessing.
She is still in very critical condition and we are in for a tough 48 hours but she is doing good.
Way to go Gracie!
Jen and I are doing ok. It’s a physical and emotional roller coaster but we have each other, our other awesome kids, our extended families, and all of you amazing people.
There is nothing in the world that could have prepared us to see our baby after this surgery. We both just broke down crying. She doesn’t even look like the same baby. We looked at a lot of these pictures before Grace was born but when it’s your baby, it’s a whole different ballgame. We’re posting pictures on here but look only if you can handle it.
Big thank you to Dr. Griffiths, the anestesia team, all of our nurses and techs and the whole surgical team for learning what you did to make it possible to help Gracie’s heart.
We will keep you updated.
